About SON

The School started as a Department in the School of Health Science (SHS) in 2013.  The department was mandated with development of the BSc Nursing curriculum, setting up the structures such as the nursing skills laboratory and establishment of Memorandum of Understanding (MOUs) with the hospitals that would be utilized for clinical placements and attachments.

The School of Nursing was established in October 2016 after the first inspection by the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK). The school admitted its first group of Forty (40) students in January 2017.

 The school has been inspected and approved by the Nursing Council of Kenya (NCK) to offer Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Additionally, in 2019 and 2021 the school was inspected and accredited by the Commission for University Education (CUE) to offer the BSc Nursing and BSc Health Systems Management programmes respectively. Full accreditation by NCK to be done once the school meets all the requirements as indicated during the audit conducted in 2020 & 2021

The school graduated its pioneer eighteen (18) BSc Health System Management graduates during the 8th graduation held on 26th February 2021, and thirty one (31) BSc Nursing graduates during the 9th Graduation held on 27th May 2022.  The student population is growing immensely and we continue to attract many applicants for our programmes. New curricula such as MSC Nursing and BSc Midwifery among others are being developed.
